Step 1: Application Initiation for Coursera Financial Aid

First of all, we need to find the main page of the course for which you want to apply for financial aid or scholarship and just click the financial button (This button will show only if financial aid is available for this course):

A new window will pop up in which course information is mentioned including course name, offering institution, and original price. After reviewing all details, you just need to click next. If you’d like to apply for financial aid to take a Specialization, you’ll have to submit a separate application for each course. Once you complete each course, you can submit a new application for the next course in the Specialization. We do not offer financial aid for Specializations.

Course Selection

After that new window will open in which details are mentioned regarding application reviewing and approval time. It’s just made sure you can wait up to 16 days and if you cannot wait for 16 days, you just need to click enroll to start a 7-day free trial or purchase the course. For financial aid, you should click the Continue to Application button.

Step 2: Tell us about yourself

In this step, Coursera required some details from the applicant including education, annual income, employment status, and reason for application. Let’s discuss all one by one:

What’s your highest level of education?

This is the first and foremost question for financial aid application because the answer to this question will decide your capability to understand course structure and content. There are five options for this question: High School, Some College, Mater’s/Advance Degree.

What’s your annual income?

You just need to mention your annual income in your local currency. If you have no source of income you need to enter zero.

What’s your employment status?

This question needs to tell employment status from the given options of Full time, Part Time, Unemployed, Student, and Other.

Why are you applying for financial aid?

This is a very important question in which you will tell why are you applying for financial and this question must be answered with a minimum of 150 words in length. So, you need to structure your answer in different small paragraphs by which reviewers understand your need easily.

If you’re approved for financial aid, you’ll receive a discount off the cost of the course. We offer financial aid to help empower learners who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford paid content on Coursera. 

In order to fairly distribute financial aid resources to the learners who need it the most, the amount of financial aid you receive may depend on the details in your application and your geographical location.

How to check financial aid approval status?

What if financial aid denied?

If your application is denied, you’ll get an email explaining the reason why. If there was an issue with your application, you can fill out another application and apply again.

How long do I have to complete the course?

After you’re enrolled, you’ll have 180 days to complete the course with financial aid. If you don’t complete the course within 180 days, you can submit another application.

Offer financial aid for Specializations?

If you’d like to apply for financial aid to take a Specialization, you’ll have to submit a separate application for each course. Once you complete each course, you can submit a new application for the next course in the Specialization. We do not offer financial aid for Specializations.

Can I take free trial after submitting financial aid application?

Your financial aid application will be canceled if you start a free trial for a subscription while it is being reviewed. If you’ve already started a free trial and still want your application to be reviewed for approval, you can cancel your free trial and re-apply once the free trial ends.
